The Fluidampr viscous torsional damper is an essential component in building a high performance 2.2 Turbo engine.

We recommend you read our FAQ on Fluidampr technology to understand why this product is right for you.
The last 2.2 20V TURBO to leave the assembly line in Germany was 1997. By now your Original damper has hairline cracks in the rubber ring which is robbing your engine of horsepower as it is no longer adequate enough to perform the job it was designed to do coupled with the disheartening fact that Audi has discontinued the OEM vibration damper leaving countless to scour the globe for good used units. In the past we have modified a current Fluidampr offering to fit the AAN but we present the worlds first viscous torsional damper for the 2.2 20 Valve turbo Audi inline-5 engine.
When starting this project, we sought the help of global legend Jeff Gerner @ Four Ring’s Performance (fastest Audi in the world) who oversaw the design aspect of the project to create a product that will suite the needs of all Audi fans alike.

Key features:

  • Decreased Flywheel & Gearbox clatter (Especially with the 01E gearbox) . Flywheel clatter can be heard when converting from the OEM dual mass flywheel to a single mass flywheel (whether steel or aluminum)
  • RPM drop reduction
  • Engine Vibration reduction . Extremely critical with thrust washers and additional tone rings.
  • Sized for an OEM replacement at 162mm. Does not over drive or under drive the accessories.
  • Centre hub is machined from 4340CrFe in order to withstand the 255Lb-Ft torque of a the OEM bolt.
  • Centre hub has provision for crank locking tool.
  • Steel construction with Zinc plating to combat oxidation of the elements unlike the OEM unit
  • (6) equally spaced M8 x 1.25 threads on a 77mm bolt circle to allow additional parasite drives (dry sump , external wet sump pump drive , etc) or hub adapters (AAN application)
  • Pronounced timing marks for clarity in timing belt replacement.
  • SFI 18.1 certified
  • ISO 9001:2008 certified
  • Proudly Made in North America (U.S.A. & Canada)

Application List

  • 1992 – 1998 C4 Audi UR-S4 / UR-S6 - AAN Engine Code

Components included

  • (1) 651462 – Vdamper/Fluidampr 4340 CrFe Hub
  • (1) 651462-C – 6PK AAN
  • (1) Installation instruction booklet
  • (4) M8 x 1.25 x 30mm stainless steel socket cap screw

Special notes (Hardware & Balancing): Install hardware per OEM specifications.
1. The AAN (and other older inline-5) engines are balanced as a complete rotating assembly. We do not recommend installing this product on a motor currently in a vehicle. The rotating assembly must first be zero balanced and then the Fluidampr can be installed. If you are going to remove any material from the fluidampr , do so from the centre hub NOT the damper itself.
Failure to follow this instruction will result in potential catastrophic engine failure or at minimum extreme cabin vibrations. Please seek the assistance of Jeff Garner’s engine building services or your local machinist before purchasing.

2. This product is MADE TO ORDER only. We do not inventory dampers for Older Inline-5's due to market demand. Your order can take anywhere from 14 to 21 days to process from the date the order is placed.

TECHNICAL NOTES:

  • ARP M18 x 69mm (2.715") Crankshaft Bolt torque Spec = 255Lb-ft / 345Nm
  • Installation of this Fluidampr requires milling (modifying) the center oil pump island lowering it 2mm as well as trimming the lower timing belt metal cover to clearance the Fluidampr assembly. Failure to do this will result in your Fluidampr being wedged to the oil pump housing and your motor will never turn over.
  • If your Original Oil Pump part number is 054115109B (NOT 109A) you will have to remove the additional bosses at the 5 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions. These bosses will interfere with the timing belt guide on the back of the Fluidampr. Unfortunately we know this is tedious for some but this is the only solution currently. If you are unable to perform this task , we can perform it for you on an oil pump core basis.
